Stripo and Beefree alternative

A Stripo alternative that keeps your HTML as written.

Modular Mail is a CMS for email. Stripo and RGE Studio (formerly Beefree) import your HTML by converting it into their own blocks. Modular Mail never rewrites the HTML: your developer adds one attribute, data-mm, to each part a marketer may change, the marketer fills in those fields, and the export is your code with their content in it, ready for Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Braze, Marketo or any ESP.

Open any free template in the editor without an account and export the HTML to see what comes out.

Why teams look

Why teams with their own HTML look past Stripo and RGE Studio

Both are good builders, and for a team designing from a blank canvas they're probably the right choice. Litmus found that 78% of teams produce and deploy an email in three days or less, and a builder that gets you there is doing its job. The teams who look elsewhere usually arrive with a template a developer already built.

01

The import rebuilds the email

Stripo says a converted import “may differ slightly” from the original, so the Outlook fixes your developer tested may not survive.

02

Keep the HTML, lose the editing

Stripo's import-as-is option keeps your code, but visual editing switches off and marketers can change text and images only, in the code editor.

03

The template now lives in the builder

Once converted, the master copy is in the builder's format, and your developer's HTML is only where it started.

We used to wait three to five days for dev to update our email templates. Now my team builds campaigns in an afternoon. Same custom designs, zero technical dependency.

Stripo's and RGE Studio's details are from their help centres and websites, checked on 3 November 2026. Beefree became RGE Studio in May 2026. Modular Mail isn't affiliated with either. Updated 3 November 2026.

How it works

Why nothing is converted

Builders need to understand your HTML to make it editable, which is why they convert it into their own structures. Modular Mail doesn't need to understand it. The developer says which elements are editable by naming them, and the compiler splices each marketer's value into the original text by position. An<h1 data-mm="headline"> becomes a text field; an<img data-mm="hero-image"> becomes an image field filled from the media library; an <a data-mm="cta"> becomes a link field. Everything without a marker is copied byte for byte, conditional comments and all, and the data-mm attributes are removed on export.

A developer can also give a marketer approved choices without opening the layout up: a colour field for a button cell, a choice between two layouts, a toggle that removes a row, or a repeater for a product grid.

Which is right for you

When Stripo or RGE Studio is the better choice

Modular Mail has no blank-canvas design tools, no gallery of its own beyond the free templates, and no connectors into ESPs. If you're starting without HTML, one of the builders is the better tool.

Stripo or RGE Studio is the better fit if

  • Nobody on the team writes HTML and you're designing from scratch
  • You want a gallery of templates and modules to start from
  • You push emails into Mailchimp, Klaviyo or HubSpot with a connector rather than pasting HTML
  • One person builds the emails and nobody needs to be stopped from changing the layout

Modular Mail is the better fit if

  • A developer or agency built your templates and you want their code kept as written
  • Several people build campaigns and the layout needs to stay locked
  • You send from Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Braze or Marketo and already paste HTML in
  • Clients or stakeholders need to comment and approve before the export
FAQ

Questions about switching from Stripo or Beefree

Something else? Get in touch

Can we import our Stripo or RGE Studio templates?

Export the HTML from either tool and send it to us, or have your developer mark it up. Builder exports carry their own classes and wrapper markup, so we usually tidy the HTML while marking it, which is part of onboarding.

Does Modular Mail rewrite our HTML at all?

No. The compiler puts each field's value into the element it's marked on, applies any colour or choice the developer set up, and removes the data-mm attributes. The rest of the HTML is copied exactly as the developer wrote it.

Can marketers move things around?

They can add the modules the template allows, drag them into order and remove them. Inside a module they change only what's marked. A new layout is a new module, added by your developer, your agency or our team.

Is there a free plan?

There's a 14-day free trial, and every template in the library opens in the editor with no account at all. Plans are on the pricing page. See pricing

Is Beefree the same as RGE Studio?

Yes. In May 2026 the Beefree builder became RGE Studio, under Really Good Emails. Beefree SDK, the version other software embeds, kept its name. Everything on this page about RGE Studio applies to what you may still call Beefree.

Which other tools keep your own HTML?

Code-first tools such as Parcel and MJML keep it because they are code editors, and several builders offer an HTML block. One page lists them by fit. Email builders that keep your own HTML

Does it work with our ESP?

Yes, if your ESP accepts pasted or uploaded HTML, which Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Braze, Marketo, Klaviyo, HubSpot, Iterable and Mailchimp all do. Merge tags typed into fields pass through as written.

Can we see the exported HTML before signing up?

Yes. Open a free template, change a few fields and export. The download is the template's HTML with your content in it. Open a template

See your own template in Modular Mail.

Send us the HTML of an email you send now and we'll mark it up before the call, so you can see what stays the same, which is all of it.
