Can Canva create HTML emails?
Yes: Canva Email exports HTML, pushes to Mailchimp, Klaviyo and Braze, and sends nothing itself. What it does well, where it stops, and when to code the template.

Yes. Since October 2025, Canva has had an email design type, Canva Email, and it exports real HTML. You design the email on a canvas, then share it as HTML by copying the code, downloading a ZIP of HTML and images, or pushing it straight into Gmail, Mailchimp, Braze, Outlook, Klaviyo, Flodesk or Constant Contact. Canva doesn’t send the email; your email platform does. For a one-off newsletter from a brand that already lives in Canva, that’s most of what you need.
Where it stops is the second email, and the tenth.
What Canva Email does well
- Exports HTML, not a picture of an email. The text in the export is text, so it’s readable with images off and searchable in the inbox.
- Connects to the platforms small teams use. Mailchimp’s own help walks through Canva to Mailchimp, and Klaviyo’s does the same for Klaviyo.
- Keeps the design in the tool the team already uses, with brand kits and shared assets.
Where it stops
- Edits go back through Canva. Mailchimp’s help page puts it plainly: to change a sent design, make the change in Canva and publish again. In Klaviyo, the export lands in the HTML editor, and visual editing needs a different kind of template. The HTML is a snapshot, not a template.
- Nothing is locked. Whoever opens the Canva design can move anything. For a brand with two people that’s fine; for a team of eight with an agency and a compliance reviewer, it’s how the sent folder ends up with five blues.
- Some things become images. Canva says embeds, charts and videos export as images or GIFs, and it warns that some email clients strip media queries. Outlook and dark mode are worth a test send before anyone relies on it.
- Custom HTML goes in, approximately. Canva can import an HTML email and make it a design, with the caveat that complex CSS may not convert exactly. If a developer coded your template with Outlook fixes, expect to check them.
When to code the template instead
If the same design goes out every week with new content, the better model is a coded HTML template with the editable parts marked, so the layout is fixed and the team changes only the fields. That’s what Modular Mail does: your developer or agency codes the template once, marks each editable element with one attribute, data-mm, and your team builds campaigns in fields and exports the HTML to Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Braze, Marketo, Mailchimp or Klaviyo. Modular Mail has no Canva integration, and we haven’t tested a Canva export as a Modular Mail template, so start from the design rather than the export: send us the Canva file as a PDF, or a link, and the Figma to HTML email service codes and tests it. Or open one of the free templates in the editor without an account to see what fields feel like.
Common questions
Does Canva send emails?
No. Canva’s help centre says so directly. You export the HTML or push the design to an email platform, and that platform sends it.
Can I edit a Canva email in Mailchimp or Klaviyo after exporting?
Only as code, in most cases. Mailchimp’s guidance is to edit in Canva and publish again; Klaviyo opens the export in its HTML editor. Neither turns the Canva design into blocks you can rearrange.
Is Canva Email free?
Canva says Email is available on its free plan, with some features needing Pro. Check Canva’s current pricing page, because plan details change.
Can a Canva design become a Modular Mail template?
Not directly, and we haven’t tested its HTML export. We code the template from the design and mark the editable parts, which is the same service we run for Figma files.
